lulu // aspects of a femme fatale

A series of ongoing performance experiments conducted by the red light district in residence at buddies in bad times theatre.

I am a core collaborator on this series conceived by director ted witzel. Through a process of “collective deconstruction,” we are looking at one of western drama’s most provocative and problematic figures—frank wedekind’s LULU. What does lulu say about us, about our sexual imaginations and our shame? And why does sexuality, especially female sexuality, terrify us, send us running to name it, control it, categorize and condemn it?

So far there have been six incarnations of lulu. ted and I are currently crafting the final installment, lulu v.7 //aspects of a femme fatale,

which will premiere as part of the Buddies in Bad Times 2018/19 season. For tickets, click here

lulu takes place somewhere between sex and death--pleasure and consequence--your place or mine...for detailed info on each version, or to see excerpts from the productions, visit the red light district's website
